  • Overview

    The “A” Electrician must have journeyman electrical experience, considerable trade knowledge with the capability to use the tools and equipment required to perform these duties and have the ability to diagnose and repair electrical problems.  The “A” Electrician must have working knowledge of the National Electric Codes.


    1. Installation of:
      • Light fixtures, switches and receptacles
      • Wiring, all types of wire and wire enclosures
      • Motors and controls (AC and DC)
      • Fans (exhaust, vent and circulating)
      • Machines (wiring)
      • Hoists (wiring)
      • All types of electrical boxes (breaker, fuse, stators, etc.)
      • Humidifiers
      • Welders
    2. Perform electrical repairs on the following:
      • Everything covered under #1
      • Cranes
      • Overhead doors
      • Washroom dip tanks
      • Pumps
      • Meters (also reading electric meters each month)
      • Cyclone cleaners
      • Bus washers
      • Fuel dispensers (all types) and Automated Fuel Delivery Systems
      • Hot water tanks
      • Transformer room
      • Battery chargers (wall mounted)
      • Compressors
      •  Back-up and portable generators
    3. Installation of, or repairs to, electrical components of all types of heating systems:
      • Steam
      • Gas
      •  Hot water
      • Electric
    4. Air conditioners:
      • Repair centralized units
      • Install and repair portable units
    5. Fire warning systems - install and repair to Code.
    6. Troubleshoot and perform all required work from:
      • Blueprints
      • Wiring diagrams
      • Sketches
      • Verbal instructions from Building & Grounds Manager/Supervisor
    7. Perform inside and outside electrical work as required.
    8. Operate Company vehicles to enable him/her to perform his/her duties on any
      • Company owned property or equipment.
    9. When operating a Company vehicle, be responsible for inventory, check for fluids and perform pre-trip inspections.
    10. Perform Preventative Maintenance as assigned by Supervisor.
    11. Operate snow removal equipment as required.
    12. Direct the work of lower classified employees.
    13. Perform other duties as assigned, including any work as outlined for lower classifications.


    1. Journeyman electrical experience
    2. Considerable knowledge of the National Electric Codes.
    3. Class “B” Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or must be able to obtain Class “B” CDL with Air Brakes restriction lifted within the first 6 months of employment.
    4. Must possess a complete complement of personal tools required to perform this position.
    5. Must be industrious, dependable and must be able to perform all work described above within prescribed standards of time and quality.
    6. Ability to perform all required duties with minimal supervision.
    7. Ability to meet and communicate effectively with people at all levels.
    8. Must be punctual and alert.
    9. Ability to use portable radios and follow proper radio procedures.
    10. Good judgement and common sense with ability to adapt to various situations.
    11. Ability to maintain records in a neat, accurate and legible manner.
    12. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by MTS.

    Physical and Mental Requirements


    1. Must be able to wear OSHA approved safety glasses and hearing protection.
    2. Must be able to stand, stoop, reach, bend, twist and walk for an eight-hour shift.
    3. Must be able to grasp with both hands, twist both wrists and use both arms to push, pull, hold and carry.
    4. Must be able to perform work from an extended scissor lift, ladder and bucket truck.
    5. Must be able to lift 80 pounds from a standing position from the ground to waist height.
    6. Must be able to lift 20 pounds from a standing position from shoulder height to above the head.
    7. Must be able to see, with corrective lenses if necessary, to observe work and aid in hand/eye coordination.

    NOTE:    Written, Practical and Physical tests shall be administered prior to job award.
